ROBOT LIST

LR Snakes

STATUS: ACTIVE

The current line of snakes produced, are the LR snakes. This design improves on the previous robots by using newer and more reliable Super Servo 2 electronics. Super Servo 2 is significantly easier to assemble than Super Servo 1, and also adds functionality such as 3-axis accelerometer feedback from each module. The mechanical design has been changed to include wire sheaths to guide and protect the wires in the snake.

Detroit

STATUS: ACTIVE

  • Name: Detroit
  • Model: LW
  • Material: 6061 Aluminum
  • Length: 36 in
  • Cross Section: 2"x2"
  • Control: Tethered RS-485
  • Servo Type: Hitec 5955 Servos with SuperServo 1 Electronics

Molly

STATUS: ACTIVE

  • Name: Molly
  • Model: LW
  • Material: 6061 Aluminum
  • Length: 36 in
  • Cross Section: 2"x2"
  • Control: Tethered RS-485
  • Servo Type: Hitec 5955 Servos with SuperServo 1 Electronics

Gusto

STATUS: ACTIVE

  • Name: Gusto
  • Model: LW
  • Material: 6061 Aluminum
  • Length: 36 in
  • Cross Section: 2"x2"
  • Control: Tethered RS-485
  • Servo type: Hitec 5955 Servos with SuperServo 1 Electronics

Hercules

STATUS: RETIRED

  • Name: Hercules
  • Model: M3
  • Material: 5052 Aluminum
  • Length: 33 in
  • Cross Section: 2"x2"
  • Control: Tethered RS-485
  • Servo Type: Hitec 645 Servos with Nanoboard Electronics

This M3 Snake features Hitec HSR-5995 servos, which are 4 times as powerful as the servos in all of the other snakes. This increase in servo torque will be useful in Pole and Tube climbing, and will make this snake generally superior and stronger than any of the lab's previous snakes.

Pepperoni

STATUS: RETIRED

  • Name: Pepperoni
  • Model: M2
  • Material: 5052 Aluminum
  • Length: 33 in
  • Cross Section: 2"x2"
  • Control: Tethered RS-485
  • Servo Type: Hitec 645 Servos with Nanoboard Electronics

Pepperoni preserved much of the same design as Breadstick, except featured a major overhaul in the snake's electronics. RS-485 boards are placed inside Pepperoni's servos, which allows Pepperoni to forgo the usual quantity of signal wires.

Breadstick

STATUS: RETIRED

  • Name: Breadstick
  • Model: M1
  • Material: 1060 Aluminum
  • Length: 33 in
  • Cross Section: 2"x2"
  • Weight: 1.26 kg
  • Control: Tethered Servo Signals
  • Servo Type: Hitec 645 Servos

Breadstick was the lab's first metal snake, finished in early Fall of 2005. It uses most of the old plastic snake electronics, except puts them into aluminum modules. Breadstick is currently used as a backup snake for the lab, and is capable of completing most of the tasks that the other metal snakes can.
